Welcome Back Snowbirds

We will have a special recognition and reception to welcome back our seasonal Snowbirds to CELC on November 8th. We think most of you will be back in Arizona by that time and we want to welcome you and have a special blessing by Pastor Jeff at the 9:00am worship because we want you to know we treasure the dynamic talents you bring to our church during your stay. We want you to feel at home here. And what helps us get to know one another is a name tag. If you don’t have one now, you can order one at our Welcome Center.
There will be a special reception following the Welcome Back Service. We also request that you update your contact information that we might be in touch throughout the year and let us know of any special needs, prayers or support we can offer you while you are here in Arizona. Contact the church office to update your contact information or update your information in the church directory. The email is office@christgoodyear.org. The phone number is 623-932-2394.
Welcome Center
We have created a visible WELCOME CENTER as you enter the sanctuary.

Why you ask? We want to make sure that folks new and old can stop by for a Worship Bulletin (large and small print); sign a visitor card, ask questions.
Richard Rohr’s Daily Devotional (3/19/25) wrote an excellent devotional, “Welcoming the Stranger” Hospitality: A Holy Practice: It speaks directly to WHY have a Welcome Center
“Hospitality is at the heart of Christian life, drawing from God’s grace and reflecting God’s graciousness. In hospitality we respond to the welcome that God has offered and replicate that welcome in the world. …the practice of hospitality is biblically, historically and theologically…significant.” (click here for full text)
We want the WELCOME CENTER to be a visual expression of who CELC is and believes themselves to be. Paraphrasing Rohr’s writing: When the church works to be a welcoming place we learn how to lament, celebrate and learn together and this can lead to healing and wholeness. We want to be a reflection and witness of Christ’s love, and it helps us all strengthen our relationships with one another. (Rohr)
CONSIDER JOINING THE EVANGELISM TEAM BY VOLUNTEERING to be a Greeter, Usher, or Welcome Center Host. You can contact Sandy Gabel, Judy Turnen or Carol Moonan for more information.
Evangelism Volunteer Opportunities
You are invited to volunteer for specific ways to welcome visitors and newcomers on Sunday Mornings to help be the friendly, welcoming church we want to be to all who find us. For more information talk to Sandy Gabel (at the Welcome Table in March) or contact via the church directory.
Welcome Table Greeters:
Prior to Sunday morning worship, sit at the Welcome Table to greet guests, give out welcome brochures/visitor cards, take signups for name tags. You can pick one Sunday or pick a whole month to volunteer. You will need to arrive by 8:30 a.m. Contact Sandy Gabel

Written Communications:
Join Judy Turnen to write personal notes and send cards and special greetings especially at Lent and Advent to our CELC family. Contact Judy Turnen to volunteer.

Parking Lot Greeters:
While weather stays good (not too hot, too cold, or too windy!) be an outside greeter. You can perhaps spot newcomers and visitors as they arrive, and offer help. Pick a Sunday, with special needs for Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday and other holy holiday events. Contact Sandy Gabel to volunteer.

Official Greeters/Ushers:
Needed every Sunday and for special Lent/Advent season events. You will be given guidelines. Contact Stevie Henderson to volunteer.
Greeters Needed
We need to fill four GREETERS for each Sunday.
If you have never signed up, told somebody, or would like to volunteer now… Please contact Sandy Gabel; or see her in person at the Welcome Center cart or Information Table on Sundays. You may also contact the church office, office@christgoodyear.org.

As weather permits one greeter will be outside the entry doors, one inside, one at the Information Table. and one at the WELCOME CENTER.
HELP US CREATE a CONTINUING EXTRAVAGANT WELCOME to CELC.
